GM dominates first day of car show - Detroit Auto Show 2007 »
Posted by: lovelytxwoman 1 year, 8 months agoDETROIT - After an impressive first day at the auto industry's biggest trade show, General Motors Chief Executive Rick Wagoner can afford a little bravado. Speaking with reporters here in Detroit Sunday, Wagoner said that this year he expects the world's largest automaker to sell more vehicles this year domestically than the 3 million it sold in

Jan. 8, 2007, 10:31 a.m.GM dominated day one of the show with a concept vehicle? One that will go almost 40 miles without running out of fuel or breaking down? How stupid is that?
GM and Ford should re-tool their factories so they can build Hondas, Toyotas, and Subarus. We lost the auto wars almost three decades ago, when the oil companies bought the US auto industry and the politicians that regulate it.

Jan. 8, 2007, 11:39 a.m.Once GM starts using the same imagination on the vehicles they actually put on the road they will start their comeback. Not before.

Jan. 8, 2007, 2:26 p.m.You are right and wrong. Toyota will take over number one this year, 2007. But not because people love boring cars, but because we love cars that start in the morning. Every morning. Because we love cars that don't rattle and begin to fall apart before the first payment is made. We love cars that are designed to be efficient and reliable. If calling triple A to come tow your 'vette off the side of the road again is your kind of excitement, don't worry, you will always be able to buy a german or other european car.

Jan. 8, 2007, 3:01 p.m.Toyota probably will be #1 eventually. Big deal. But I guess boring is only a perception. GM has a long way to go in the imagination department.

Jan. 8, 2007, 4:17 p.m.Toyota makes a decent car, of course they are made in America. Just look at the sticker on the door. I am not crazy about their plastic pickup trucks.

Jan. 8, 2007, 6:44 p.m.yay for domestic cars. I love the new mustang, charger and challenger (as well as the old ones!) Japanese cars are boring. I've been driving my american car for 6 years and i haven't had a major problem knock on wood

Jan. 8, 2007, 7:59 p.m.I am happy that the American auto industry is starting to get it right. Their cars are as good as the foreign and in some cases even better. However, changing the perception that many people have regarding foreign cars won't be easy. They must be careful not to get caught up in the gadget war and forget about the things that really matter, such as quality, rideabliity, reliability and great looking vehicles. It doesn't matter what electronic crap you put in a vehicle, if it's not what the carbuyer wants it won't sell. GM, don't lose sight of that like you have for the past 30 years.
